What is the best vacuum to get when you have dogs?
My old vacuum is just not picking up all of my dog's hair. Does anyone know a really good vacuum to buy if you have dogs? Or has anyone had a vacuum that was really awful and I should stay away from?

We got a Dirt Devil Purpose for Pets vacuum last night.
I used it this morning for the first time & it looked like our carpet was actually getting lighter in color from all of the dog hair coming up that the old vac couldn't get. (we have a black lab & a pomeranian, both heavy shedders).
It was on sale at walmart for $50, regular price $58.
I would think that any of the vacuums that say "for pets" on the box would be fine.
It all depends on how much you want to spend.
They range in price from $50 to $300+
ADD: Our old vacuum was one of those super cheap ones that they put out around Christmas time for like $20.
You should avoid ones like that. They're cheap which is nice, but they just don't have the muscle to take care of dog hair.

Actually for removing pet hair from furniture or car seats you don't even need a vacuum. Get your
hands wet (plain water) and slightly rub them across the fabric. Repeat as often as needed.
The trick is wetting your hands. Rubber gloves work well in the same manner. I have always
used an upright vac and love my Eureka Sanitare Commercial Vac. Only use it on bare floors and
carpeted surfaces.

I've gone through more vacuums than I care to mention! Stay away from Wal Mart type vacuums in the 200 or cheaper range. My Electrolux was a good vacuum but it killed me with the bags and maintenance. I went out and got a Dyson and LOVE it. Works well, blockages are easy to clear. If dog hair is a problem I also suggest a carpet steamer. This will help loosen the hair out of the carpet during prime shedding seasons. Truth of it is, you cannot vacuum up all the hair, some will get stuck and embedded into the carpet. After you shampoo and carpet dries you can vacuum out the majority of the hair.
I gotta agree that no vacuum is fool proof and if dog hair is troublesome for you doing away with the carpeting is ideal. However, if it is not an option the above should get things back on track for you. Good luck!

For cheap: a Bissell Pet Hair Eraser. Mid-range: Riccar (the #1 pick by Consumer Reports for removing pet hair), for more money:Dyson, for the biggest investment: Rainbow.

I got sick of the conventional ones. You have to buy bags and filters. They always clog up. I bought a $30 indoor/outdoor shop vac. No bags just empty the container. I've never been happier.

I had a Dirt Devil Cyclonic vacuum - bagless - for 10 of my dog's 15 years of life - it never wore out - my dog was a husky shepherd who blew her coat every spring - I could have made an English Sheepdog out of the fur this vacuum picked up every day - just from my livingroom carpet alone - not exaggerating - anyways, that vacuum more than paid for itself over the years

A Hoover wind tunnel bag less, they clean deep down and don't need bags because the dirt and hair collects in a plastic container to be emptied in trash.I have 2 a small one for quick pick ups such as in kitchen and a full sized one for rest of house.

I have a dyson, and a hoover wind tunnel. I use the wind tunnel in the dogs main areas which are downstairs. ( I have a back problem and having one on each floor makes it easier than lugging them around) Both work well to get rid of the hair. I just bought one of those shark steam mops today and it's awesome! I used that on the tile and the laminate today and they look like brand new floors! You can also use it on carpet to clean deep down.

nobody has had more hoovers than me! i have had electrolux pet hoovers, dysons but none and i mean none compare to a numatic henry!!! my husband kept telling me to get one as he has used them in the past in the restraunts he worked at, numatic henrys are used at all car vallet places and ussually by contract cleaners, when my last hoover broke i gave it to my husband and bought the henry and it was the best hoover i have ever had! the sucktion is amazing and it never looses power, they are very simple in design but i thinks thats a bonus as they are very easy to unblock peices of lego that i have accidently sucked up!
thenthere was hetty! henrys sister (the pink henry) and i wanted her lol so i said to myself when henry dies i will buy a hetty but guess what,, henry refused to die lol so in order to get my hetty i had to sell henry on ebay! and when i was asked if i want to buy extended cover for my new hetty i laughed and said no thanks i wont need it as these things last forever lol and they do!
i wont ever buy annother hoover i will buy henrys till the day i die!
trust me buy a henry! if you dont believe me look up reviews, and to all those people who think dysons are good they havent seen nothing! i had 2 dysons and there nowhere near as good as henry

Hoover Wind Tunnel, Black and Decker hand vac and an O'Cedar microfiber mop for the hard floors.
Upholstery brush of the Hoover takes hair off upholstery with one swoosh rarely two. the B&D takes hair off the O'Cedar when done.
All past GSDs have had the same shag rug by the inside back door as their landing pad before they hit the rest of the house and don't leave it until they hear an 'ok'. The current GSD has learned to wipe his own paws. Amazing, huh?
I saw him pivot on the shag rug one time and told him Good Wipe Your Paws!, what I told him when I wiped them for him.
About the 3rd time he heard it he began doing it on command. He comes in, first step with all four paws on the rug, he pivots and off comes the dust/dirt and mud. GSDs amaze me almost every day. He still needs that 'ok' command to leave the rug though.

Don't be fooled by vacuums that say they are for pet hair. Any vacuum with excellent suction will work, and that wouldn't be a Bissel or similar cheap brand. Make sure the vacuum is bagged, as bagless get clogged easier. I have two. One is a Hoover Windtunnel and the other is a Riccar. Riccar is more expensive but well worth it. Windtunnels are reasonably priced, but make sure you maintain it well and change belts and filters often. I picked both up at yeard sales. An old quality vacuum is much better than a $69.99 special.

A shop vac from Home Depot or Lowe's. Those things are so strong you might suck the dog up along with the hair! lol

I suggest NOT getting a 'bagless" vaccuum....the suction STINKS and you really cant rinse out the dirt cup or the vaccuum filter new filter cost up to $20....
I just have a Hoover (bagged) upright vaccuum
Stay away from Dirt Devil (bagless) Turbo (hoses got all clogged and attachments were confusing)

You definitely need a bag-less.
I have a Bissell & I love it. I also have 4 Chihuahua's & a cat.
For being cheap they get the job done.
I'm not an allergy sufferer though, so that does not concern me.
OMG!!! I'm so tired of getting old Q's.

A Rainbow.
They are quite pricey, at well over $1000.00, but for overall cleaning they can't be beat.

Ohh! The Dyson Pet Hair vacuum! Works wonders! [ : They're a little expensive, but they're worth it. Make sure that when you're searching for a vacuum, do the research online and look at reviews. Some are really helpful!
